Hip-hop artist Young M.A. It was made public with the title "Herstory in the Making." The recording honors M.A's killed brother Kenneth Ramos, who passed away on September 26, 2009. According to a press release from Young M.A:
Truthfully, this is a bit of a selfish episode because I just wanted to become closer to this woman! And what better way to do that than hear her story in an hour-long episode?! After hearing her speak at an event last month, I instantly knew her voice needed to reach my listeners the way they reached me.
I have become one of the most vocal Asian female climate activists, which defies the stereotypes of the model minority myth, and the submissiveness of Asians and women. I hope my story can inspire more young girls to get out of their comfort zone. Be fearless in pursuit of what sets your soul on fire. I am telling you that it is worth it in the end as you will meet amazing people, have incredible experiences, and grow stronger as a person. You are never too young to make a difference.

Coinciding with Women’s History Month, this workshop will explore resources for researching, documenting, and interpreting women’s stories, as well as hints on how to overcome challenges inherent to women’s history.
The book HerStoryis the collective story of 24 women who worked in prisons and correctional services from 1986 to the present day. These women have a combined total of 377 years of service to CSSI. It is the first time Pacific correctional officers have published their own history of service.
In this episode, we continue the 4 part "Herstory" mini-series focusing on women in scripture with the Easter story of Mary Magdalene. We discuss how Jesus taught Mary a new way to live and how her audacious love led her to be called the "apostle of hope", announcing his resurrection to the apostles.
She had never floated before, but when the water lifted the log from the ground she knew at once that she was floating. As it came free of the ground, the log rolled somewhat into its new balance on the water, and she had to clamber onto the top of it again to keep from falling off. The sound of rain falling on water was all around her now. And through the treetops overhead the wind moved and made an airy sound.
The mystery, suspense, and beauty of the characters make for a compelling and stunning read. The author has a real talent with bringing believable events into the story to touch the heart and bring hope and healing to worthy individuals who need it most. The writing is good though you really need to keep note of the date written at the top of every chapter. The twists and turns of the story are intriguing enough to keep the readers going till the end of the story. It is a typical love story, written with a lot of descriptive detail that brings you right into the lives of the characters.
You're in luck because Suzy Williams, founder of Suzy Quilts, documented her story in an interview recorded for the Quilt Alliance's flagship Quilters' Save Our Stories (QSOS) oral history project, and you can watch it! If you love watching Suzy's Instagram LIVE videos during sew alongs, this event is a must-see.
Oral history is a way to preserve history by recording a person's voice as they are interviewed. It's an engaging and dynamic way to preserve the past because listening to someone reflect on their own experiences and memories can help bring history to life. You'll hear their laughs, their emotion, and maybe even their tears. You can learn more about oral history here.
Since founding the QSOS oral history project in 1999, the Quilt Alliance has built the largest oral history collection related to quilts and quilters in the world with over 1,200 interviews with quilters from all walks of life. Archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, these interviews are available to anyone to hear.
Do you want to hear Suzy's story from Suzy Williams herself? This special oral history, recorded on video instead of audio-only, will be presented at a Textile Talk, a free weekly series of presentations and panel discussions about fiber arts co-presented by the Quilt Alliance and other quilt and fiber organizations. Following the interview, there will be a 15-minute question-and-answer period when any audience member can ask a question!
The Quilt Alliance's oral history project has been on pause while interviews are indexed to make them easier for anyone to search, with only a handful of invited interviews happening over the last few years. But soon you can participate too! The project will re-launch in 2023, during the Alliance's 30th anniversary year, for any quilter to submit their own oral history.
This grassroots project is open to any quilter and encourages the importance of preserving your story not only for researchers but also for family who may want to listen to your interview in the future.
If you're interested in having your quilting story preserved at the Library of Congress as well, the best thing to do is to follow the Quilt Alliance on Facebook and Instagram. You can also sign up for the monthly Quilt Alliance newsletter here so you'll be the first to hear when the QSOS oral history project opens next year!
If you're not able to come to Suzy's oral history Textile Talk in person, leave your questions in the comments of this blog post! We'll add them to our list and she might answer your question if there's time! 041b061a72
