Max Factor Lipstick Where To Buy [NEW]

Max Factor was born Maksymilian Faktorowicz in Congress Poland, and later moved to Moscow where he was employed as a wig maker.[2] After immigrating to the United States in 1904, Factor moved his family and business to Los Angeles, California, seeing an opportunity to provide made-to-order wigs and theatrical make-up to the growing film industry.[3] Besides selling his own make-up products he soon became the West Coast distributor of both Leichner and Minor, two leading theatrical make-up manufacturers.

In the early years of movie-making, greasepaint in stick form, although the accepted make-up for use on the stage, could not be applied thinly enough, nor did the colors work satisfactorily on the screen. Factor began experimenting with various compounds in an effort to develop a suitable make-up for the new film medium. By 1914 he had perfected his first cosmetic product. With this major achievement to his credit, Max Factor became the authority on cosmetics in film-making. Soon movie stars were eager to sample his "flexible greasepaint".

In 1939 Max Factor, Jr., began development of a smear-proof lipstick which would also both be non-irritating and not change color. A kissing machine was constructed to test the formula's resistance to fading. The result was released in 1940 as "Tru-Color" in six shades of red.

It was under Norton Simon that Max Factor launched "Maxi", a line of makeup aimed at a younger, more savvy consumer. Maxi sold products aimed at adolescent tastes, such as lip gloss, color rubs and "mood" lipsticks. Maxi was priced to compete with market leaders Bonne Bell and CoverGirl. Neither Maxi, Geminesse, nor Max Factor were able to lift the company's declining profits and market share.

In 1933, Max Factor opened a third factory devoted to making dry rouge, compacts, mascara and lipsticks and, the following year, the company decided to renovate and extend the Make-up Studio on North Highland Avenue.

By 1937, Max Factor had added Special Light, Special Medium and Red Raspberry to the Light, Medium and Dark shades of its original Society lipstick. Then, in 1938, the company introduced Tru-Color Lipstick, another indelible packaged in an elegant gold case.

Booklets put out by Max Factor through the 1930s also contained detailed instructions on the best way to apply lipstick, rouge, face powder and eye make-up, which included some basic contouring techniques used by stage and screen make-up artists.

If you're old enough to remember the TV shows Fraggle Rock or Salute Your Shorts, or play computer games like Oregon Trail, or you're just a makeup junkie like me, then you probably remember Max Factor. In fact, you probably owned a lipstick, liner, or mascara from the iconic makeup brand, and if you grew up doing ballet or performing in your high school's plays, then you definitely remember their Pan-Cake Foundation, a product that looked like a pressed powder but when you mixed it with water, you had a creamy base akin to spackle.

The company also built new offices and factory space for the Canadian branch in Toronto, (1956), constructed a new French factory in Pantin (1956) and another in Mexico City (1958), begun moving its American manufacturing operations into a new manufacturing plant in Hawthorn, California, and opened a new factory in Bournemouth, England (1959), superseding the one completed in 1947.

Max Factor added Iridescent Magic Lipsticks in 1959 in pearlescent shades: Essence of Pearl, Golden Frost, Petal Frost, Flamingo Pearl, Apricot Frost, Orchid Pearl and Desert Pearl shades. Essence of Pearl was colourless so could be used under or over other lipsticks to add iridescence to any lipstick colour.

The other major addition during the decade was the creation of Hi-Society cases which combined a mirror and lipstick all-in-one. Introduced in 1958, the cases could be fitted with a creamy-moist Hi-Society or long-lasting Hi-Fi lipstick.

Max Factor Lipfinity lipsticks also come in a range of finishes including matte or velvet, glossy or cream. Many long-lasting Max Factor lipsticks have a staying power of up to 24 hours, with some up to 8 hours.

The Colour Elixir range of Max Factor lipsticks have been created with active moisturising ingredients that can transform dull dry lips to smooth, luscious, fuller-looking lips in just one application.

Max Factor have also introduced a signature range of lipsticks inspired by Marilyn Monroe. These, as you might imagine, come in a choice of 4 striking red tones including Berry, Sunset, Cabernet and Ruby Red, so you too can look and feel like a film star.

To get the best from your stick lipstick , Max Factor recommends first exfoliating your lips before hydrating and then removing any excess moisture (blotting your lips with a tissue). Then apply your Max Factor colour with a lip brush or application.

Super Lipstick will create a velvety look on your lips. Providing intense color thanks to its special formula, Max Factor lipstick creates a matte look on your lips. Suitable for all make-up styles, Supermatte Lipstick also protects the sensitive texture of your lips.
